How do I get a refund from TJX?

TJX is the parent company to a chain of department stores, such as TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Marshall's, Sierra, and Home sense in the U.S., TX Maxx in the UK, and Winners in Canada. While these stores all have their own return policies, they are basically the same. If you want to know how to get a refund from TJX stores, this article can help.

Marshalls Store Return Policy

Marshall's allows you to return most items within 30 days of purchase with or without a receipt. However, you can't get cash back without a receipt; rather you will only get a credit that you can use towards the purchase of store merchandise. If you are returning clothing items, they must not have been used and should be in the same condition they were in when you purchased them or your refund may be denied.

TJ Maxx Return Policy

You can return items purchased online within 40 days of purchase according to the TJ Maxx store refund policy. However, purchases made in a land store must be returned within 30 days from the date of purchase. This store also allows you to return items without a receipt for which you will be issued a store credit.

General Exceptions for Returns

There are some exceptions to what you can return to TJX stores that include:
  • If you purchased an item from a TJ Maxx land store, you cannot return it online.
  • Any item returned in an unsellable condition or that looks as if it was used, will not be eligible for a refund.
  • Products that were purchased online can be returned to a land store with the exception of handbags that cost $499.99 or more and any other items that cost more than $1000.
  • Another item purchased online that can't be returned to a store, is long occasion gowns.
  • Beauty products will not be eligible for a refund if they were already opened or found to be tampered with. If any suspicions are raised by TJ Maxx, they have the right to limit or decline your return.

Return Methods

TJ Maxx offers two ways for you to return items, you can return them by mail online or to a TJ Maxx store on land. Keep in mind that your return items must be received within 40 days after the date of purchase. Unlike other stores that make it necessary to print out a shipping label for return items, TJ Maxx already provides you with return shipping labels for each item when your order is shipped to you.

To return an item by mail, follow these steps:

  1. Pack all items you wish to return in their original packaging along with any paperwork that was included.
  2. Attach the return labels onto the package.
  3. Locate a UPS drop-off store near you and drop off your package.

The items will go back to the store and you will receive your refund within five to seven business days.

Note: a $9.99 shipping and handling fee will be deducted from your refund.

To avoid the return fee, you can drop your package off at any TJ Maxx store.
