How Do I Port My Number to Shentel Wireless?

Before You Port Your Number
Before you try to port your number to Shentel, there are some things you must do. While all phone companies are required to offer a porting option, not all phone numbers can be ported to all services. You need to check to see if yours can be ported to Shentel. You also need to see if your device will work with Shentel's service. So contact a Shentel customer service representative and ask.
If your number is found to be ineligible for porting, there are a few potential reasons why. You can't port a number on a family plan. You can't port a number on a work plan, either. If your number is not currently in service, it is ineligible. Finally, if your current provider does not have an interconnection agreement with Shentel then porting is impossible. In each case, you will need a new number.
How to Port Your Number to Shentel Online
Please note: do not cancel your plan with your current provider before you port your number. It won't work if you do. To port your number to Shentel, follow these instructions:
- Go to Shentel's home page.
- Click on the Phone link in the nav bar at the top of the page.
- Click on the Check Availability button.
- Enter your address.
- Click on the Check Availability button. Shentel will check to see if there is service available in your area.
- If service is available, continue filling out the application.
- Enter your current phone number and service provider information when given the opportunity.
- Authorize Shentel to make a number transfer request to your current service provider.
- Wait for notification that the port is complete. This could take up to 10 business days. During this time, your phone should continue to work as normal on your current plan.
- Once you receive the notification, your number will work on Shentel's service. Cancel your old service plan.
Your old account may actually be closed automatically as part of the porting process. However, you shouldn't just assume that happened unless you want to get stuck with a surprise bill. Contact your old service provider anyway.
How to Port Your Number to Shentel at a Store
You can also port your number by going to a Shentel store and signing up for Shentel service in person. Make sure you bring your account information for your current service provider with you. To find a Shentel store, use the store locator tool.
