What Happens If I Don't Claim a Macy's Gift Card?

You are the recipient of a Macy's gift card from a friend, coworker or family member, but you never claim the card. What happens to the card or the funds used to purchase it? You can find out more about gift cards and other items by calling Macy's customer support. Below are things you need to know about unclaimed gift cards.

About Macy's Gift Cards

You can purchase a gift card for a friend or family member and have it sent electronically as an e-card or via regular mail as a plastic gift card. Gift cards don't expire, so once purchased, the funds sit on the gift card until they are used.

When the Gift Card Is Unclaimed

Unfortunately, Macy's gift cards cannot be exchanged for cash at any Macy's location or through the online customer portal; however, you do have options.

  1. If you are the recipient of the gift and received an email notifying you of an e-gift card, you simply need to locate the email and accept the card. Once you have the card, you can use it at any time.
  2. If you are the one sending the e-gift or classic card that was never used or claimed, you can call Macy's customer support to request a replacement for a lost or stolen card. You must provide proof of purchase to get a replacement card for the value left on the original gift card.
  3. As the sender, check with the intended recipient before contacting customer support. The person receiving the gift may have forgotten it, or they may be saving it to use toward a larger purchase or special occasion.

Unfortunately, there is little you can do when a gift card isn't claimed other than reach out to the recipient if it was a gift to remind them to use it or use the card yourself for your own purchase. If the card isn't claimed because it was lost or stolen, you can contact Macy's customer support and request a replacement card.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Macy's Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
