How Do I Report a User on Etsy?

Owning an Etsy shop has many benefits but there are obstacles that come with the territory of having an online business. You might find spam messages in your inbox which can be deleted as spam, or you might be the receiver of harassing or scam messages. It's suggested that you report these to Etsy Support as soon as you can.

There are many benefits to having an Etsy account. You can buy and sell from the same account if you want. There also are some users who have two different accounts and that is fine too. Naturally, owning an Etsy shop means you encounter some interesting people online. Etsy has ways of reporting other shops and items, but what about other users? This guide will help you report users to Etsy. Please read on for more details.

Deleting Spam Messages

A handful of users might spam you and these users can be reported as such. To accomplish this, simply log into your account and go to your Messages. Select the one you want to report as spam and select Mark as Spam under the More option. Please note that this doesn't report it to Etsy. For more severe occurrences that would breach Etsy's terms and conditions, please see below.

Of course, Etsy's community pages can also experience spam in the direct messages feature. Going through these steps will report the message as spam. Go to your Etsy Community account dashboard and click on the Messages icon located in the top right-hand corner. Next, click on the title of the message and then the Report option.

Reporting Harassment

If you need to report harassment, please click the Contact Support button located at the bottom of every help page. You can also reach Etsy Help and Support here. Depending on the type of harassment, you may want to look into reporting it to your local authorities, especially if what's happening is illegal as in the case of users sending others pornographic images.

Keeping an Eye on Your Received Messages

Etsy also warns users of potential scams by other users. There are more articles about this topic but the company warns its shop owners of scammers using strange formatting or language, refusing to use Etsy checkout or offers to send you more money than what your item is listed for. A few more key components of scammers are asking vague questions that make it seem they didn't read your listing or they insist you message them via personal email off the Etsy platform. You can either delete these messages as spam or report them directly to Etsy support.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Etsy Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Etsy in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How Do I Report a User on Etsy? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
