As a general rule, you can upgrade your phone any time you want to. However, if you are buying your phone on a payment plan, you need to pay it off before you can upgrade it. There may be early upgrade options available, though. Contact a Cox customer service representative to find out if your phone qualifies for an early upgrade.If you are going to use your old phone for a trade-in, turn of the Find My Device feature if you have it enabled, back up all of the data in your old phone so you can transfer it, erase all that data, reset your phone, and remove any SIM or SD cards it has.You can keep your current phone number when you upgrade to a new phone as long as that line does not have an active equipment return in progress, there are no active payment or military suspensions, and you do not currently have another phone number transfer going.

When you are asked if you want to trade in your current phone toward the price of the new phone, agree and then answer the questions about your current phone. Please note that the value assigned to your trade-in will be an estimate only. The true trade-in value will not be determined until you send in your phone and it is inspected by a Cox employee.
It will come with a padded envelope and directions for mailing your trade-in back to Cox.
Once your trade-in has been inspected, you will receive an email with the final trade-in value. In 5 to 8 business days after that, you will either get that amount credited to your Cox account or wired to your bank account.
