Introduction

A Coinbase account may be restricted or disabled if the platform detects suspicious or potentially fraudulent activity. Accounts can also be disabled due to issues during account recovery or as a precautionary security measure. When your account is disabled, you won’t be able to buy or sell cryptocurrency. You may still be able to withdraw funds. In most cases, the restriction is temporary and can be resolved by completing the account recovery and verification process. Keep reading to learn the steps to take if your Coinbase account is disabled.

Sign Back In to Your Coinbase Account

You’ll know your Coinbase account is disabled if you see a message stating, “Sorry, your account is temporarily disabled.” In most cases, this restriction is temporary, and you may be able to sign back in after completing the required recovery steps.

When you attempt to log in, Coinbase will guide you through the process. Follow the instructions, complete the identity verification checks, and you should be able to regain access to your account.

Update Your Information

You’ll be prompted to begin the recovery steps to log back into your account and regain access to Coinbase services. Click Start to begin the recovery process.

Please note that the recovery process requires uploading a valid government-issued ID, entering your two-factor authentication code, and taking a photo of yourself for identity verification.

Enter the Verification Code

Check your phone for the verification code, enter it in the box, and click Continue.

Choose an ID

You can only use your passport, driver's license, and state-issued ID. If you don't have any of these or you have lost your valid IDs, we recommend contacting Coinbase so they can advise you on how to go about the recovery process.

Select an Upload Method

You can use your computer or your mobile phone's camera in uploading the valid ID. Click File Upload if you already have a copy of your valid ID stored in your computer.

If you prefer to use your phone camera, you'll need to scan the QR code to upload the ID.

Complete the Rest of the Verification

The account recovery process typically takes 48 to 72 hours, depending on the complexity of the case, though in some situations it may take up to 10 business days. Coinbase will notify you by email once the recovery process is complete.

After receiving confirmation that your account has been verified, you should be able to sign back in. Please note that Coinbase may temporarily disable the Send feature for approximately 24 hours as an added security measure. After this period, you should regain full access to Coinbase services.

Contact Coinbase Support

If there are issues with the account recovery process or your account was disabled because you violated a user agreement, we advise contacting Coinbase Support so they can better assist you.

Conclusion

If you see a message that says your account is disabled, don’t panic. As mentioned earlier, this is almost always temporary, and you can usually regain access after completing the account recovery process. Coinbase may also send additional instructions, so be sure to monitor your email closely. To avoid future issues with your account, follow Coinbase’s user agreement and complete all required identity verification steps. If you continue to experience problems with account recovery, contact Coinbase Customer Support immediately for further assistance.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Coinbase Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
