Changing your Apple ID should be an easy and straightforward task. To do this, log in to your Apple account and click on the edit button. From there, select change Apple ID and key in the new email address you want to use. You should get a verification code in your email if you changed to a third-party email address. Make sure you sign back in to all services using the new Apple ID.
If you happen to change your email address or lose access to your previous email, it is important to update all your accounts for security details. The same applies when your email gets hacked. Your Apple ID is one of the accounts that need to be updated as soon as possible. Under ordinary circumstances, you should have no problem changing your Apple ID email address. If you registered for Apple ID using a third-party email address, it's possible to choose another third-party email if you need to make changes. However, it becomes almost impossible to do if you used an Apple email address to register.
If you are using an Apple email address (usually, the end in cloud.com, me.com, or mac.com), you should be able to use any of your aliases as your new Apple ID according to Apple customer service. As we said before, it is impossible to switch to an email address provided by a third-party service if you currently use an Apple email address as your ID. If there are no traditional Apple email addresses connected to your account, changing your Apple ID is impossible.
Similarly, you cannot change the Apple ID or link it with an alias. When you create an email alias, you cannot use it as an Apple ID. The best and simplest option is to create an entirely new Apple ID.
You can contact Apple support for more information.
You may be asked to try at a later point if you want to change Your Apple ID to an Apple email created less than 30 days ago. If you get a message that the email address you want to change to is already being used, make sure that nobody you know is using it on their account. If they are, remove it before making changes to your own Apple ID.
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Apple in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How Do I Change My Apple ID Email? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
