Before you redeem your flights, it's a good idea to understand where and how they can be used.

Many people think their air miles can only be redeemed in exchange for another flight. However, American Airlines offers a variety of options.

Frequent flyer miles can be used for:

How To Redeem Frequent Flyer Miles:

Log In on the American Airlines Website:

The most common way to redeem miles with American Airlines is to book flights.

First, the American Airlines website. Once on the website, log into your account. You can find the 'Login' hyperlink in the top right-hand corner of the homepage. On the 'Login' page, fill in your AAdvantage membership number, surname and password. Then, click on the blue 'Login' button at the bottom of the page.

Redeem Miles:

After logging in, choose the 'Redeem Miles' option from the AAdvantage menu, which is at the top of the page. The next step is to select the 'Book Now' button.

Choose your destination, dates, and flights. Then, pick the type of mileage award you would like to redeem. The MilesAAver Award requires fewer miles but offers less flight options than the AAnytime Award.

Once you have selected your flights and the type of award you want to redeem, enter your passenger information, and purchase your flights.

Cabin Upgrade With Miles:

If you have booked a flight that you want to upgrade to business or first class, you can do so anytime before check-in.
