What Do I Do If I Missed My Connecting Flight on Hawaiian Airlines?

If you miss a connection while flying, you may understandably feel panicked. It helps to know ahead of time what your options are. If you have booked a trip on Hawaiian Airlines, read on to learn what to do if you miss a connection.

If You Miss a Connection

If you miss a connection, whether it is your fault or that of the airline, go to the nearest Hawaiian Airlines desk and tell the staff there exactly what has happened to you and why. They will do everything they can to help you continue your journey with minimal delay.

If you missed the connection because your connecting flight was delayed or cancelled, Hawaiian Airlines will provide you with another flight to get you to your destination or next stopover point, without stopping, if one is available. This will be done at no cost to you. They may also, at their discretion, provide you with transport on another airline if one of their own flights is not available. If neither of these options is possible they will offer you a refund.

If this involves a delay of more than 4 hours and goes past 10 pm, Hawaiian Airlines will provide you with a night's lodging at a hotel they select, unless you live in the city where the missed connection occurs. They will also provide transportation to and from the hotel. If the delay is longer than 4 hours, no matter the time of day, the airline will give you a meal voucher.

The airline might also offer you travel credit in lieu of the above steps. This credit will have to be used within 365 days of being issued.

If you missed your connecting flight through your own fault, the airline is not obligated to take any steps to help you. Still, at their discretion they may choose to do some or all of the things described above. It's certainly worthwhile asking for their help.

The airline will also not be obligated to take any of the above steps if you missed your connection because of what is known as a "force majeure event," such as bad weather, riots, floods, or any other events that are out of the airline's control.

How to Make the Refund Request from Hawaiian Airlines

If the airline decides to offer you a refund, or if you cannot complete your trip because of the missed connection that they caused, the procedure for requesting your refund is simple.

1. Go to Hawaiian Airlines' home page.
2. Click on the Sign In button at the top of the page, on the right.
3. Sign in.
4. Click on the Contact Us link at the top of the page, on the right.
5. Click on the Send Us an Email link at the bottom of the page.
6. Click on the Make a Request button.
7. Select the Refund option from the Topic menu.
8. Select the Change / Cancellation Fees option from the Subtopic menu.
9. Fill in your contact information.
10. Fill in your traveler information, including ticket and flight numbers as well as your confirmation code.
11. Attach files at the bottom of the form.
12. Click on the Submit button.
