How to Exchange an Item You Purchased Online

It's difficult to shop online for clothing since you can't try anything on to see if it fits. Also, many things may look different on your screen than up close. Therefore, you may wish to get an exchange for a different size or color.
Items purchased at the Gap can be returned within 45 days of purchase for a full refund or exchange.

Start Your Return

Start by going to the website and logging in to your account. Once there, navigate to your orders section. You will see a list of all the orders you placed. Locate the order you wish to return and click on it. If you are still within the return limit, it will allow you to start your return. UPS prepaid return shipping labels are usually sent with your order. If you don't already have a return label, you will have the option to print one out on the website.

Prepare the Package

Be sure to package the return items in the original box. Remove or scratch out all other shipping/tracking labels that appear on the package. Affix the new prepaid shipping return label to the box where it is clearly visible.

Ship Your Package

There are a few options available to send the package back to the Gap:

  • Give the package to your US post office mailman when he or she delivers your mail.
  • Drop your package in a mailbox near you.
  • Take the package to a UPS service store that accepts UPS packages.
  • Call UPS to schedule a pickup for your package.

How to Exchange Items purchased online at a Land Gap Store

You can return some items you purchased online to a physical land store, but it must be the same store. For example. You can't buy something at gap.com and return it to an Old Navy physical store. It can only be returned to a physical Gap store. Note: You cannot return items purchased online to a factory or outlet store.
Also: Items marked as "Mail Only" can only be returned by mail.

  1. Locate a physical store near you.
  2. Put the item back in its original package, it came in along with any included paperwork.
  3. Find the return label that came with the package, print one out from the Gap's website, or use the new interactive return app on your phone.
  4. Give all these items to the sales associate and let them know why you are returning the order. Note: Let them know if the order was a gift.
  5. They will check that everything is in there and give you a receipt or proof of your return.
