Saving Data

There are three methods to saving data on Dashlane.

Method One:

You can set up Dashlane to automatically save passwords as you browse the web. To use this method, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the Dashlane Browser Extension has been installed.
  2. Log into Dashlane.
  3. As you browse the web and log in to sites normally, you will receive a prompt asking if you wish to store the password in Dashlane.
  4. If you wish to store the password, click "Save."

Method Two:

If you have already saved passwords on a browser or device, you can import those to Dashlane. Follow these steps to import data:

Saving Windows Passwords:

  1. Open the Dashlane app on Windows.
  2. Click the menu bar.
  3. Select "File."
  4. Click on "Import."

Saving macOS Passwords:

  1. In the applications folder, choose "Dashlane."
  2. Click the menu bar.
  3. Select "File."
  4. Choose "Import."

Currently, data cannot be saved from iOS or Android browsers.

Method Three

You can manually add passwords to your Dashlane app. To do this follow these steps:

  1. Open the Dashlane app
  2. Select "Passwords"
  3. Fill in the blanks with the information. Make sure to include website, login and password information.
  4. Click "Ok."

Restoring Data

It is very important to back up your data on a regular basis in the Dashlane secure archive in the event you need to restore it later. Restoring data can only occur on the following platforms: Windows desktop application, Legacy macOS, and Android app. Below are the steps to restore data.

Windows and macOS:

  1. Open the Dashlane app.
  2. Select "File."
  3. Choose "Import."
  4. Click on "Dashlane secure archive.
  5. Select file you wish to restore.
  6. Enter the master password you used to encrypt the data.

From Android:

  1. Launch Dashlane app.
  2. There are two options to select from:
  • Choose "Settings," then "General," the "Restore Your Vault."
  • Choose "Import Passwords," then "From an encrypted backup file."
  • Select the file you wish to restore.
  • Enter the encryption password you used to store the file.
