How Do I Change Primary Contact for My Comcast Account?

If you have an account with Xfinity and want to change the primary contact, follow these simple instructions.

Comcast, operating under the brand name of Xfinity, is a telecommunications company providing services throughout the United States. The company was founded in 1981 and operated under the name Comcast name until switching to Xfinity in 2010. Comcast provides its customers with services for Internet, telephone, cable television, and wireless services. If you have an account with Xfinity but want to change the primary contact, keep reading for the instructions on how to do so.

Note that a primary user has full access to the account and its features and can control the permissions for secondary users. When you change your account from a primary to a secondary user, you will lose the ability to:

  • Manage product features
  • Create and manage secondary accounts
  • View and pay bills (unless given access by the primary user)
  • Access online Xfinity Voice voicemail (unless given access by the primary user)
  • Manage your Xfinity mobile account, make payments on the account, and purchases


Transfer the Primary Contact Online

  1. Go to https://customer.xfinity.com/#/
  2. Sign in to your account with your username, email, or phone number and password.
  3. At the top of the page, select ‘Users.'
  4. The primary user will be displayed. Next to their name, select ‘Transfer admin rights.'
  5. Select which user you'd like to transfer the admin rights to with the drop-down menu. Note that a secondary user will already have to be on the account to choose them.
  6. Select ‘Save.'
  7. You'll receive an email confirming the changes.

If you're having difficulties online, you can access the Xfinity Customer Support live chat function for some troubleshooting tips. Tell them the error you're running into and ask for help.


Call into the Xfinity Customer Support

If both of the above options didn't work, you can call into the Xfinity Customer Support team for assistance. Explain that you've tried to perform the action online and attempted some troubleshooting tips. Provide your account and personal details to confirm your identity as the primary account user and ask the customer service representative to complete your request on your behalf. You should receive an email confirming the change has been made. Keep the customer service agent on the line until you've received the email and confirmed the changes are correct.
