Calling this number is helpful if you have a credit card with WalMart or you plan to apply for one, but not so much if neither of these applies to you. When I called this number, I was asked to provide my 16-digit account number, or I could say that I didn't have one and ask for assistance another way.
I opted for the second one, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the system provided me with several options for my next move. I was asked if I wanted to apply for a credit card, get the status of a new application or check information about my current account.
I said credit card application to see what that process would be like, and I was taken forward to that setup. I was told that because of call volumes that were higher than normal, I should expect a long wait time on my call.
Sure enough, the call connect to the next checkpoint told me that I would need to wait for approximately 20 minutes before I would be able to get assistance. Not willing to wait that long and not planning to apply for a card anyway, I decided to hang up after waiting a minute to see if the system would offer me the ability to call back or otherwise reserve my place in line. It did not do so; holding or hanging up were the only options.
Based on this, I think the service might be good if I was calling to get assistance with an actual card, as the menu is detailed and allows you to quickly move through things. If you're calling to get a card, you'll probably be better off going online to apply for a card that way. I wouldn't use this prior to becoming a customer, but I would if I was a customer.
