What are the hours and when should I call?

Megabus operates the call center for this 877-462-6342 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Thursday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 197 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Megabus phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Megabus staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.
The least busy time to call
The least busy day to call Megabus is Thursday. The most busy day to call is Monday, which averages 74% more phone calls by comparison. Again, this is based on a sample of 197 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.
The shortest wait on hold
We measured the shortest hold times to be on Tuesday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Friday.
The best time to call
In summation, the best day to call Megabus is Thursday. This is not the day with the shortest wait on hold in the phone system, but we still recommend it for its ideal combination of low call volume and short hold times. Plus we believe that Megabus staffs the call center well on Thursday.

My Experience Calling 877-462-6342

Mar 22, 2024

I regularly travel on Megabus because it's a cheap and affordable way to get around the country, but the last time I traveled I think that I left something behind in my seat. I'm not sure how to handle getting it back, so I figured calling the company directly is the best way to find out. I'm hoping that it's at my local terminal, but it could have possibly traveled forward before being found. Megabus has a lot of customers, so I wasn't really sure how long it would take me to talk to someone since it could be busy with people calling about cancellations, reservations, etc.

When I called, I was greeted immediately by a virtual assistant who said, "Thank you for calling MegaBus. When you travel with MegaBus you travel in comfort and with confidence at a great low price. Please listen to the following options. To make a reservation, please dial 1. Be sure to ask about our $1 seats and reserved options. You can also book online at To speak to a customer service specialist, please dial 2." I pressed 2 and was expecting another directory, but went straight to a hold line.

I was informed however that the hold time was going to be longer than usual due to heightened phone calls and the stormy weather which was resulting in a lot of cancellations. This worried me slightly, but when it asked if I was willing to wait I figured I would give it a try. I'm glad I did wait because there were about ten seconds of hold music and then an agent named Sonia picked up the phone. She had a thick accent and was hard to understand, but with a bit of struggle was able to tell me what to do to report my missing belongings.

If phone-based customer service is not available, or the wait times are long, many people prefer chat as a next-best option. Some even prefer it to calling on the phone. Luckily, Megabus provides this option.
Email - Customer Service
Customer service email address
Corresponding with a customer service department by email may not be your first choice, especially if your issue is urgent or time-sensitive. But email is a nearly ubiquitous form of communication, and Megabus will reply our your email.
X (formerly Twitter)
@MegabusHelp - Customer Service
Company Twitter help feed
Megabus, like many companies, provides customer service on the X platform (formerly Twitter). While it rarely entails live dialogue with a customer service rep, this channel can yield rapid response times and can be a useful option if you have an X/Twitter account.
Megabus's website
As a last, sometimes only, resort- Megabus customer service can be accessed through their website. This can entail digging through help articles before finding a form and "being allowed" to submit a problem to their team, and rarely leads to a real-time conversation, which is why GetHuman does not recommend this unless it's the only way.
