I am not sure how I ended up with this customer care number from Verizon, but I would not recommend it because it's not going to help most people with a general Verizon query. I called it and was very surprised when it said, "Thank you for calling the Verizon Recovery Account Center." I was caught a bit off-guard, and then even more so when my options were outlined to me. The voice assistant stated, "To speak to a recovery representative, press 1. For mortgage lender verification information, press 2. To repeat these options, press 7."
I had a feeling at this point that this was not going to help me at all, but I selected 1 to make sure before I went searching for another number. I was immediately connected to Eric, who was helpful, but who explained that this was essentially a line for people whose service had been suspended. That was not my situation, so I asked for a more appropriate customer service line and he told me to call 1-800-837-4966 or that I could go online and choose the "call me" option to get to an agent. If you are attempting to recover your account this number will be very fast, it took less than a minute to talk to someone else, but it won't help with anything else.
There are probably hundreds of reasons why people may need to call Verizon. I wanted to talk about promotions, but it's likely that people call about their internet speeds, phone contracts, plans, service options, billing and more. Therefore, a general line is going to serve more people versus a line that only offers recovery services. Hopefully, I won't need to use the recovery line again.
When I called the number that Eric gave me, I received excellent service and despite the number of daily callers, received pretty fast service. When I called, this number stated, "Welcome to Verizon, I'm the Verizon assistant. Enter your number or press the pound sign if you don't have one." I entered my number and then the virtual assistant asked, "How can I help you today in a sentence or two?" I stated, "talk about promotions" and it said I could get someone to help with that. It took about 30 seconds and I was sent to a wait queue, but the queue hardly took any time and I was connected to an agent who was helpful.
