Calling this number didn't work as expected, as the customer service office appeared to close early when I dialed. The number said it was supposed to be available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time, but when I called, I dialed about a half-hour before the offices closed and couldn't get any kind of response from this number.
I'm not sure whether this is a standard situation and the system just doesn't accept callers after a certain point in the day or if the offices happened to close early and I simply got unlucky. Still, I couldn't get anyone to answer even though I had dialed during business hours. I double-checked to make sure that I was calling at the right time, and I was, in fact, calling at the proper time.
When you call after hours, you can't use this number to get any help whatsoever. The system only tells you that you have called outside of normal business hours and can call back Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Standard Time. You're also encouraged to check out the website to get information before the system automatically hangs up on you.
Overall, I'm less than impressed with what I found during this call. It's obviously not fair nor a complete picture to offer analysis when the customer service team could not be reached, but the fact that I couldn't get someone to answer toward the end of normal business hours was a problem. Given how many companies make sure that someone is available to respond before the day ends and even in the few minutes after the day ends, this was a surprising discovery.
I was also unimpressed that there's no automated system to provide information after hours. I understand that this number is mostly set up for in-person customer service during regular business hours, but that can be difficult for the average person, especially given that four time zones to the west have to find a way to call well before their average workday comes to an end. Giving some information on the automated system would be one way to mitigate the tight window restrictions.
Overall, I wouldn't be inclined to use this number for customer service based on my experience. If I were a genuine customer in need of assistance, I'd make absolutely certain that I was calling well before the listed closing time in case I was calling on a day when the staff wasn't accepting later calls.
