What are the hours and when should I call?

Dell operates the call center for this 877-819-3355 phone number Mon-Fri 9am-6pm CT. The short answer is that you should call on a Tuesday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 414 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Dell phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Dell staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

The least busy time to call

The least busy day to call Dell is Tuesday. The most busy day to call is Monday. Again, this is based on a sample of 414 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

The shortest wait on hold

We measured the shortest hold times to be on Wednesday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Tuesday.

The best time to call

In summation, the best day to call Dell is Tuesday. This is not the day with the shortest wait on hold in the phone system, but we still recommend it for its ideal combination of low call volume and short hold times. Plus we believe that Dell staffs the call center well on Tuesday.

Dell's customer support is dedicated to helping customers seeking help with tech issues, order assistance and product purchases. I was interested in gathering information about purchasing a new laptop and called Dell to discover where and how to buy a computer. Upon calling, you're immediately asked by the automated system how you need help, but no menu options are given. You'll need to say sales, tech support, recent order, billing issues or something else to get to the right department. I said "sales" and waited on the phone for less than a minute before a customer service rep was on the line.

I described my current situation to the rep, stating I was interested in purchasing a new laptop but wasn't sure where to begin. To help narrow down my options, she asked me what I would use the computer for and if I had a price range in mind. I explained the laptop would be for personal use at home — mostly for our family's online access, documents and games. She recommended a specific Dell line that would make the most sense for me, adding that it would be ideal to visit a local Best Buy to see the computer in person. Dell has no specific storefront or location, so she explained all devices must be purchased over the phone, online or at a Best Buy.

Another helpful tip she offered was suggesting I view the computers in the store and return to Dell's website to compare prices. Sometimes better pricing deals are available online, she said, adding that Dell's annual Black Friday sale products would be featured on their website as part of an early release promotion. In addition, Dell offers a payment plan option for customers, allowing them to finance purchases over $750 without paying interest for 12 months. This sounded like a great plan for my personal needs.

I expressed concern over the shipping method and protective measures for computer delivery. The rep assured me that I would receive adequate tracking information for my purchase and would need to be home to sign for the delivery. I would also get minute-by-minute updates on the day of delivery to ensure I would know the time to be home. She was very patient and helpful during the 10 minutes we were on the phone while directing my attention to a plethora of information and articles on Dell's website.

She advised me to contact Dell again when/if I needed any help setting up the new laptop/computer, as tech support can assist with this process. This was one of the best customer service calls I've experienced in which the Dell representative was knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. Dell's website also allows you to chat with online representatives, if that's preferred, as well as to track your order once purchased. These options make it convenient and effective to access help.
