I had an issue with renewing my Barnes & Noble rewards membership and the lady at the checkout wasn't sure why it didn't automatically renew. She offered to let me do it there at the checkout, but I was worried that I would end up getting changed a second time since I was on auto-renew so I decided to just call. I have had companies mess accounts up this way, and even ended up with dual accounts in the past, so it seemed a phone call to the company was the best way to resolve the issue.
The only issue was I feared that I would end up on hold for hours because Barnes & Noble is a huge company and I had no way to guess how busy they might be. They offer both in-sttore and online plactofrms to buy from as well as a decent list of digital files which I'm sure people need assistance with from time to time. There are also probably people like me who need help with their memberships. This is why I was so surprised that after two minutes I was on the line with a customer service agent.
When I first called, an automated assistant greeted me with, "Welcome to Barnes & Noble. Did you know B&N rewards and members now earn stamps for most purchases?" It then continued to offer me the directory, "For membership, press or say 1. For order status, 2. To place an order, press 3. For account and billing inquiries, press 4. For Nook, ebook, or audiobook inquiries, press 5. For store locator 6. Or if you are calling for any other reason press or say zero and you will be connected with a customer service agent."
I said 1 because my problem surrounded my membership renewal issue and the automated assistant said, "Please hold a minute while I get you to someone who can help." Classical music played for about ten seconds, and then instantly I was greeted by a live customer service agent who said, "Thank you for calling Barnes& Noble, this is Lee how can I help you.” I was very impressed because in addition to being polite, Lee spoke clear and clean English, and it was refreshing to speak with someone who easily communicated with me. It took him about two minutes to look up the problem and offer me advice. I only spent about 5 minutes overall on the phone and my issue was completely resolved when I hung up the phone.
