I was notified by United Airlines that due to a runway repair in SFO during the time we will be flying back from Germany there would be major delays so it is recommended that I contact them and change our flight for no change fee. After an hour on hold and then ** minutes on the phone with them they announced that I would have to make the changes through Lufthansa since it is a Lufthansa operated flight even though it's a United ticketed flight. Next, another hour on hold with Lufthansa and then on hold again while the agent checked with her supervisor only to tell me that since it as a United missed ticket they will have to make the change. I am now ** minuted into another hold with United. This is absolutely ridiculous, no way to treat a customer.

Issue was finally resolved by a competent United agent after over * hours on the phone (mostly on hold) between both United and Lufthansa. The first United agent simply gave me the wrong info and should have issued the change herself. So frustrating!
