I recently visited an Old Navy Store in Naperville. I have been an Old Navy shopper for as long as I could remember. My mom went there to buy my clothes for school as a young girl, and I now go there to buy my kid's school clothing and my own clothing for work and leisure. I recently had weight loss surgery, and have lost a drastic amount of weight, so I visited an Old Navy to take advantage of the great clearance sales. With having lost so much weight, I was unaware of what size I wore in different clothing. Therefore, I had to try on several sizes and different styles to finally know what size I truly wore. My experience at this store was pleasant as I found many great things, but that all changed when I realized I was being followed by a loss prevention associate. The associate made it very clear that he was watching me, and I was instantly made uncomfortable by his constant appearance in my surroundings while shopping. However, I continued to shop because I desperately needed new clothing. After my purchase, he stood by the door and as I exited he asked to see my receipt and checked by bags. This was completely humiliating. I do not think that loss prevention associates or any store associates for that matter should be trained to follow a procedure that targets one individual and single them out in a store to publicly humiliate them. The customer in front of me was not requested to their receipt or had their bag checked. In fact, many customers behind me were able to walk past me and exit the store without getting their receipt or items check as he thoroughly checked mine. I have never had such a horrible shopping experience in my life. I hope that Old Navy as a company does better to provide their loss prevention team with better training than what was presented in this Naperville location.
