I was at the JC Penney’s at Yorktown in Lombard, IL. I was standing in line to purchase a shirt for my husband for Christmas. The woman in front of me had a candy bar coupon, I asked her where she got it and she told me she got it off nearby table. I didn’t see any so I was going to ask about it when I got to the cashier. A few minutes later one of the cashiers came out from behind the register and got a candy bar from a box on the table and returned to the register. I took one of the candy bars from the box, one of the cashiers shouted to me, “EXCUSE ME, YOU CAN’T DO THAT!” I said to her “aren’t you supposed to give these out?” She said, “yes we’re supposed to GIVE them out, you can’t just take them!” I was very upset and embarrassed, I threw the candy bar and shirt on the table and left, not wanting to cause a scene. I had just come from the jewelry department where I spent $***.** on a **k gold necklace. By the way, The woman who waited on me there was extremely nice and helpful! I am going to return the necklace, after that I will not be shopping at any of your stores! The other times you had the candy bar coupon sale there were employees at the door handing them out when you walked in. I had no idea they were now given out at the discretion of the cashiers.
