The issue in GetHuman3767005's own words
I received a message on messenger from a friend. It was about a hack. I'm not sure if it was saying my friend was hacked or my account was hacked. But it said not to accept a friend request from an Andrea Wilson and to please for this to my friends*contacts. I thought it might be a hoax but i did forward it. Then i changed my facebook password and logged out of everywhere i might be logged in. Then i tried to go to messenger and i had to log in and all my contacts and messages were gone. I was afraid to give messenger permission to access all my phone contacts so I denied that and the session was ended. When my phone tried to log out it never would. The little circle kept going around and around stating that it was logging out. So I have had to restart my phone to log out. I've done this several times. One time it told me that I had no contacts. One time it said that "we were having issues and to try again later. Messenger has always been logged in.

I have an issue with Facebook too
How GetHuman3767005 fixed the problem
As far as I can tell, it was an issue with facebook. I received a message from them while I was trying to figure out what was wrong. The message was that they were having issues and to check back later. I thought that might just be a part of a possible hack. So I changed my password, sent them a message and by that time I was receiving messages again on Messenger. I don't think I was hacked. I received a hoax message about being hacked.
