To cancel your AT&T account you will need to call into support. But before, you should find another provider and check to see if your number is portable, meaning you can bring the phone number to another company.
The issue in GetHuman-sergeda's own words
I was trying to port my number to the different carrier with a $* balance on my bill, no contract, and no financial debt for any of the devices. ... I have ported my number to another carrier from AT&T after going through **** and terror, abuse and humiliation on the side of AT&T for * weeks. *When I finally managed to get the number out, I was left with $** balance due for the time the held up the release, which was due to no fault of mine — purely technical difficulties on the side of AT&T. **I have been disputing this balance. **But the service at the new carrier turned out to be unsatisfactory for me — no coverage in in two important locations. *Now I am considering restoring my account and bringing my number back to AT&T with my existing, paid-up and unlocked by AT&T iPhone X (as BYOD). *But as -an almost ** years loyal customer, I want to get some concessions from them for the three week terror they have but me through and taken almost ** hours of my time on the phone with them. (I have records of all conversations.)*...That is if they want to have me and my family back with many service lines of service and additional features and services subscribtions, and have me not file formal complaint to FCC about their violation of WLNP Mandate of ****.
AT&T would be losing from $*,*** to $*,*** a year in my business. *And the formal complaint with string merit and ** hours of recorded conversations would be filed on the to FCC.
Restore my recently cancelled account and service and bring my number back, and receive some concessions for the unexceptie experience while trying to have my number ported to another carrier.
I have been with AT&T for almost ** years and used their wireless, Internet and TV service (in various forms) from * different states where I have lived.
