Unfreezing Your Credit

You have two options if you wish to unfreeze your credit score;

1. Unfreeze the report with no specified end date

2. Unfreeze your credit report for a specified period

If you freeze your TransUnion credit report with no end, your credit report will be available for access to lenders who have a permissible purpose. You can freeze it again when you are ready. If you choose to unfreeze your credit report for a specified period, it will continue to be accessible to lenders until that period is over. After that, it will be frozen again. You don't need to initiate another freeze.

Unfreezing Your Credit Report

Download TransUnion in the Google or Apple Play App Store. You may freeze or unfreeze your credit from your pocket.

To unfreeze, log in to your account on the mobile app or online. Click on the option 'Remove Credit Freeze.' If you choose to freeze your account again, you may do it.

If you have trouble unfreezing your TransUnion account, you may contact the support team for help. When contacting TransUnion on the phone, they may need you to provide details such as; your social security number, date of birth, address, and freeze PIN. You need your PIN to complete the process using a phone system.

How to Unfreeze for a Specified Time

If you want to unfreeze for a specified period, log in to your account on the app or online. Click on the option 'Temporarily Lift Freeze' and enter the dates when you want your credit report freeze to be active. When that period ends, TransUnion will automatically add your freeze back.

You may schedule your freeze removal up to 15 days before the date you want it to happen.

When you call TransUnion for help with your temporary freeze, an interactive voice response system will guide you through the relevant steps.

Using the PIN

You need a PIN to unfreeze your credit report on the phone. If you are using the TransUnion app or unfreezing online, it is not necessary. You may request a new PIN online if you wish to change it. The six-digit number will be associated with your account. Use a number that is unique but easy for you to remember. Your new PIN should be something that you haven't used previously.

The PINs are meant to make sure that other people do not attempt to unfreeze your credit report without your permission. They are like an extra security blanket.

The best way to contact TransUnion if you need help is on the phone. You will be connected with the right agent depending on your problem. Having all the relevant information ready before contacting the support team makes it easy to get help fast

You may also seek support from TransUnion through email. This is a good option if you don't need to speak directly with a representative. Send them a brief but clear email specifying your problem and the type of help you hope to get.

The TransUnion help desk has plenty of issue-specific topics and suggestions that may help you deal with the issue you are experiencing. Most TransUnion customers seek support on the help desk before exploring other support options.
