Santander provides customers with a suite of banking tools and resources. If you need to send money from your Santander bank account to somebody with an account at another bank, and if you need that money to get there as soon as possible, you should send a wire transfer. This article will teach you how to send one.

What Is a Wire Transfer?

There are multiple ways to transfer money from one bank account to another. A wire transfer is the fastest way. Because a wire transfer is simply a direct electronic transfer of funds from one bank to another, it can get to where it's going in as little as an hour. However, you have to pay for a wire transfer, so it's best to use them only when speed is of the essence and the amount of the transfer is high enough to justify paying the fee.

How to Send a Wire Transfer from Your Santander Bank Account

Although Santander allows you to make some kinds of transfer online, a wire transfer is not one of them. To send a wire from your Santander account, you are going to have to go down to a Santander branch in person and fill out all of the appropriate paperwork there. You will need to bring to following information with you:

  • The name of the recipient's bank.
  • The recipient's bank's address.
  • The recipient's full name.
  • The recipient's bank account number.
  • The recipient's street address. (A.P.O. box is not acceptable.)

Please note that you will have to pay a $25 wire transfer fee at the time you send it. Santander does not offer pay-on-receipt wire transfers.

The cut-off time for both domestic and international wire transfers is 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday. Any wires received after that time will be processed on the next business day.

Domestic wire transfers should take no more than four hours to reach their destination. International wire transfers may take more than a day.
