Blizzard is one of the most prominent video game publishers in the world. They have published famous games such as World of Warcraft and Overwatch.
Like many other video game publishers, Blizzard users are required to have an account to only monitor their game activity and make purchases but also to be part of the large Blizzard gaming community. However, sometimes you may need to reset your password and regain access to your account.
There are several situations that may necessitate a password reset. The first and most common is a user forgetting their password. Another is if you think your account is vulnerable to hacks or has been hacked and you want to reset your password for account protection. A rare reason is if you simply want to make your password stronger for extra protection.
All the above are valid reasons for resetting your password. Though forgetting passwords is the most common reason for resetting passwords, severe account hacks of Blizzard accounts have happened in the past in North America, New Zealand and Asia among other places.
After the attacks, Blizzard Entertainments asks users to change their passwords. The passwords are crystallographically protected by the Secure Remote Password (SRP) protocol, a key-based authentication system and very difficult to crack.
Resetting your Password
You have several options as far as resetting your Blizzard account password is concerned. The way in which you change your password will depend on whether you have access to your account or not.
If you have access to your account, the procedure is simple. The process will be as follows:
1. Launch your web browser and open the Blizzard Entertainment website.
2. Click the 'My Account' tab at the top right hand side of the page.
3. Once you click it a drop-down menu will appear. Click 'Log In.'
4. Input the necessary details and then log in to your Blizzard account.
5. Click the same 'My Account' tab once again and click 'Account Settings' from the subsequent menu.
6. You will be presented with all details about your account. Scroll to your account password and click the 'Edit' button.
7. Proceed to input your old password and then your new password twice.
8. Click 'Save' to confirm the password change.
You should receive email confirmation of your password change. You should also try logging out of your account and then logging in with the new password to ensure the password reset was successful.
If you are completely locked out of your account and have forgotten your password, you can still reset your account password. However, you will need access to the email or phone number associated with your Blizzard account.
You can do so through the following process:
1. Launch your web browser and open the Blizzard Entertainment website.
2. Click the 'My Account' tab at the top right hand side of the page.
3. Once you click it a drop-down menu will appear. Click 'Log In.'
4. Under the empty boxes, you will see the 'Forgot Password' option.
5. Input the email or phone number associated with the particular Blizzard account and then click 'Continue'.
6. You will receive your password through email or phone. You should then follow the instructions provided for obtaining your password and reset it.
SMS
You can use an SMS protection option to reset your Blizzard account password. The SMS protection was originally meant to alert you via mobile phone of suspicious activity on your account.
However, by following the voice prompts you can reset your password through SMS if you need to.
The option of last resort to reset your Blizzard account password is to contact customer support.
