Cryptocurrencies are an investment that allows you to start out small and work your way up to higher amounts when you're ready. Many crypto exchanges make this easier by allowing you to make purchases with your credit or debit card. Some sites like Bitstamp allow customers in the U.S. to use electronic check as well as the available bank transfer. You have many options when adding funds to your Bitstamp account.

Tips to Remember

Many financial sites have rules that must be followed. Please keep the following in mind.

  1. The bank account used to fund your Bitstamp account must share the same account holder. The site warns you that if the names don't match exactly, there may be extra processing time and you might be required to provide more details.
  2. Transfers from joint checking accounts are allowed but the processing times are longer, and you might be contacted to provide more information. It's recommended to use a bank account that is under your name only. If you have a sole proprietor bank account, the same restrictions apply. You might be asked to provide more information and processing time can be longer. Please use a personal bank account.
  3. Bitstamp understands that name changes can happen, so if you changed your name on your photo ID and your bank account, please reach out to Bitstamp's customer service agents here to update the name on your account. Failure to do so might cause delays in processing future transactions.
  4. Transfers from corporate bank accounts to a personal Bitstamp account are blocked, as are third-party accounts, including those which you are an authorized user.
  5. Funds from payment processors can be accepted. You may be required to submit additional information and there's extra processing time. Please keep in mind that Bitstamp has the right to reject any deposit for any reason.

Ways to Add Funds

You can add funds using a credit or debit card, bank transfer or ACH transfer. Please keep in mind that you won't be able to withdraw funds from an ACH transfer until Bitstamp verifies that the funds are available. You also may be required to complete at least one bank transfer before your account is eligible for an ACH transfer.

  1. Log in to your Bitstamp account and go to the Deposit page.
  2. Select either card purchase or bank transfer from the side menu. If you want to perform an ACH, you can accomplish it from the Bank Transfer option once you have made the needed bank transfers.
  3. For bank transfers, please select the currency type and the account balance you'd like it to credit. Click the Deposit button.
  4. For card payments, choose the Card Purchase option from the menu. Next, choose the cryptocurrency type and the currency you'd like to use to buy the crypto, then enter your card information.

Please remember to reach out to Bitstamp's customer service representatives here if you have any questions.
