I just upgraded my home to better meet my family, which means that I have to deal with moving my services over to my new home. One of the items on the list was to call Reliant Energy and transfer my electric service to the new house. I was able to talk to someone within a short timeframe, but first I had to navigate through a lengthy directory process. It makes sense though since people need to call for energy issues, storm issues, new services, stopping services, and moving services.
When I first called, an automated voice greeted me and said, "Welcome to Reliant, to report a power outage in your area press 1, otherwise press 2. For billing, payments, and account balance, press 1. To renew or change an existing service plan, press 2. To start, move, or stop service, press 3. For questions about security, press 4. For all other matters, press 5." I chose option 3 since it met my needs the best, and was then offered new options which included, "If you're not currently a reliant customer and want to sign up for a new electricity plan, press 1. To move or transfer your existing service, press 2. To stop service, press 3. To change or stop the status of a scheduled service request, press 4. For all other requests, press 5."
After I pressed 2 there was a disclaimer that worried me that said, "We are currently experiencing higher-than-normal call volume. For immediate assistance, please visit us online." However, despite the warning, it only took about 30 seconds for someone to pick up my call. Andrea picked up the call and was able to walk me through the easy process. It turned out to be a very easy thing to cross off my to-do list.

GetHuman does not provide call center services or customer support operations for Reliant Energy. The two organizations are not related. GetHuman builds free tools, researches information, and shares tips and tricks from other consumers to help customers of companies like Reliant Energy. That can include tools such as our GetHuman Phone, which allows you to call a company but skip the part where you wait on the line to get a live human rep, or talk to a company's customer service operation for you. GetHuman believes that this fills an important gap between fragmented support models, makes the customer care experience more uniform, and even answers questions that businesses and agencies are reluctant to answer (but shouldn't be) - making the customer experience less confusing for all. We continue to work on these tools to help customers like you (and ourselves!) navigate the messy phone menus, hold times, and confusion with customer service. As long as you keep sharing it with others, we'll keep improving it.
