When you call MetLife Dental's customer service phone number, you're greeted by an automated message system that immediately asks which MetLife policy or product you're calling about. If you don't reply verbally, the question will repeat twice before informing you that if you're unable to use the voice-activated system, the call will be terminated. The message will then repeat the question for a third time—asking which policy or product you're calling about—and if you still don't verbally respond, the system will ask you to call back at a later time "when you have a better connection," after which the call will be automatically terminated.
MetLife Dental's customer service phone number being solely voice-activated is disappointing, as these systems, at least in my personal experience, rarely seem to work well. Whenever I have to navigate one, from any company or customer service line, I hear "Sorry, I don't understand," more often than not, even when speaking clearly. Having keypad options is just more user-friendly. Also worth mentioning, there weren't any alternative language options to increase caller accessibility.
Additionally, the fact that you're not even given options or a proper phone menu is extremely disappointing. I don't know the company's specific policy names. Should I? I tried verbally saying one of their product names, hoping to figure out a way to reach a representative, but the system didn't understand.
Essentially, in my opinion, the phone line is set up in a way that intentionally makes reaching a representative difficult. Either that, or the poor automated messaging system is a significant oversight by the company, although I greatly doubt that, considering MetLife is one of the largest global providers of insurance. They're presumably worth billions, but can't be bothered to have a decent customer service phone number?
Ultimately, I gave up trying to reach a representative and instead went to their website.

GetHuman does not provide call center services or customer support operations for Metlife Dental. The two organizations are not related. GetHuman builds free tools, researches information, and shares tips and tricks from other consumers to help customers of companies like Metlife Dental. That can include tools such as our GetHuman Phone, which allows you to call a company but skip the part where you wait on the line to get a live human rep, or talk to a company's customer service operation for you. GetHuman believes that this fills an important gap between fragmented support models, makes the customer care experience more uniform, and even answers questions that businesses and agencies are reluctant to answer (but shouldn't be) - making the customer experience less confusing for all. We continue to work on these tools to help customers like you (and ourselves!) navigate the messy phone menus, hold times, and confusion with customer service. As long as you keep sharing it with others, we'll keep improving it.
