I was looking at buying a new water heater for my house, and it occurred to me that Kmart still stocks large appliances. I thought that I might have better luck with the pricing at Kmart versus paying the plumber to come install it for me. I figured at the very least, I had nothing to lose by checking out the website. However, I couldn't find some of the exact specifications that I wanted and this is not the type of order that you take a chance on.
With that in mind, I went ahead and called the customer number. I was in for quite a surprise, however, as it seems that Kmart goes out of its way to tell you to just go online and chat with someone. At first, it seemed hopeful, as an automated agent answered the phone and said, "Thank you for calling Kmart.com. If you are calling about online orders from Kmart.com, press 1. For repair, press 2. For Sears credit card, press 3. For delivery and installation, press 4. For parts, press 6. For protection agreements, press 6. For all other inquiries, press 7."
I chose 1 since that fit what I needed, and then was given more options with a disclaimer that I could go online for help. This time it said, "You can visit Sears.com to manage your current order, place a new order, or chat with one of our customer service agents. If you need to make a new purchase or for product information, press 1. If you have questions about an existing order, press 2. For password reset, press 3. For all other inquiries, press 4."
I pressed 1 for product information and then chose 1 again for help with large appliances, and instead of getting an agent, I got this disclaimer: "For assistance with all new orders, please visit Kmart.com. Here you can manage a current order, place a new order, or chat with one of our associates for assistance."
As soon as the message ended on me, it hung up abruptly. I called again because I thought I had done something wrong, but sure enough, it hung up on me again. I'm quite disappointed that even for large purchases Kmart won't offer customer support outside of web chat.

GetHuman does not provide call center services or customer support operations for Kmart. The two organizations are not related. GetHuman builds free tools, researches information, and shares tips and tricks from other consumers to help customers of companies like Kmart. That can include tools such as our GetHuman Phone, which allows you to call a company but skip the part where you wait on the line to get a live human rep, or talk to a company's customer service operation for you. GetHuman believes that this fills an important gap between fragmented support models, makes the customer care experience more uniform, and even answers questions that businesses and agencies are reluctant to answer (but shouldn't be) - making the customer experience less confusing for all. We continue to work on these tools to help customers like you (and ourselves!) navigate the messy phone menus, hold times, and confusion with customer service. As long as you keep sharing it with others, we'll keep improving it.
