The first step to getting a refund is to cancel your reservation booked through Vrbo. To do this, log in to your account first. Just enter your email address and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note that the property owners may also refund you without canceling the reservation. For example, the guest already checked in but decided to cancel their reservation. As a guest, you will not be able to cancel a reservation; only the property owners can do this. However, this can actually affect their metrics, so some of them will issue you a refund without canceling your reservation on the platform. Some managers or property owners may also issue a refund to guests without canceling the reservation as compensation for a broken heater or air conditioning, or when there's a natural disaster.
Look for the reservation you want to cancel and go to the Details tab.
Note that there may be cases where you can no longer see the "cancel booking" option. In this case, you need to select Request Cancellation.
Before canceling, review the property's cancellation policy first to see if you can get a 100% refund.
If you're eligible for a 100% refund, expect the amount to be credited to your original payment method within 5 days. Note that if the reservation was charged in a different currency, the total refund amount may vary depending on the bank's exchange fees and exchange rates.
Guests also pay for a service fee, which varies depending on the property. This fee is also automatically refunded if you're still eligible for the 100% refund.
When you're certain that you want to cancel, click Cancel Booking. You can check the refund status by going to My Trips and selecting the reservation you canceled. Simply go to the Details page and click Get Refund Status.
Did you also purchase a travel protection product via Generali Travel Protection? You need to contact them directly regarding the travel insurance refund. For the contact number, just check the confirmation email from them.
After canceling the reservation, you will receive an email from Vrbo regarding the refund details. Don't worry about the processing fees, as only the property owner pays for them. The processing fee is also refunded to you when you're eligible for the 100% refund. For bank charges, the bank may deduct this from your refunded amount. If you still have further questions regarding refunds, feel free to use Vrbo's chat feature to speak to an agent or get in touch with Customer Support today.
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
