Making your monthly bill payments can be a real pain, particularly if there are lots of them. If one of them slips your mind and you make the payment late, you could damage your credit rating or at least lose an important service. Fortunately, if you bank with Santander, you can pay your bills automatically, with the money taken directly out of your account when a bill comes due. When you set up these automatic bill payments, you'll never again have to deal with the hassle of paying your bills.

How to Get Automatic Bill Payments Set Up

To get Santander's automatic bill payments feature set up, follow this procedure:

  1. Go to the Online Banking site and sign into your account.
  2. Click on the Bill Pay option.
  3. Click Add a Company or Person. You will see a number of options for different types of bills.
  4. Click on the type of bill that fits the one you want to pay. You should see a list of local payees for that bill type.
  5. Click on your payee. If your payee is not on the local payee list, enter the information for that payee yourself.
  6. Click on the Add button.
  7. Enter the bill amount, payment frequency, and first payment date.
  8. Click on the Make Payment button.

How to Enroll in Online Banking

To set up Santander's automatic payment tool for your bills, you have to be a member of the Online Banking program. To enroll, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to Santander's Online Banking enrollment page.
  2. Pick an option for verifying your Santander bank account. You can do this either by entering your Santander account number or your Santander credit/debit card number.
  3. Enter the number you chose in the last step.
  4. Enter the final four digits of your Social Security number.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Follow the instructions to verify your identity.
  7. Follow the prompts to finish the Santander Online Banking setup process.
