Introduction

Did you forget your PayPal password? Don't worry, you can reset your password online. After resetting your password, you should be able to regain access to your PayPal account. However, note that you need access to your email address or the phone number associated with your PayPal to change your password. PayPal also performs security checks to protect user accounts, so ensure you can complete at least one security check. If you want to reset your password, read this helpful guide for the step-by-step instructions.

Go to the Sign In Page and Click Forgot Password

Complete the Security Check

Paypal needs to perform a security check to protect your account. You can request a text message, confirm your credit card number, or get a WhatsApp text. Choose one and click Next.

You need to complete at least one security check, or resetting your password may not be possible.

Confirm Your Card Number

Enter your credit card number and click Confirm. If PayPal suspects you might be someone else, it may ask you to choose another way to confirm you are the account holder. Click Next.

Enter the Security Code

Check the phone number associated with your PayPal account and enter the security code. Then click Submit. After completing the security check, PayPal will ask you to create a new password. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PayPal password.

If you have a personal and a business PayPal account, create different passwords for each. Never create a password that includes a date or word associated with you or a family member. As much as possible, use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Use misspelled words to create a stronger password.

Additionally, change your password when you notice suspicious activity on your account or on the email address associated with it. If PayPal asks you to change your password, change it immediately. And if you receive a link to change your password, this could be a phishing link. Log in to your account and change the password only on PayPal's official website. Never click any links sent to your email address that are not coming from PayPal.

To ensure no one else gets access to your account, it's highly recommended that you create a passkey. Passkeys are bound to the app or website's identity, making it highly secure and resistant to any hacking attempts. They're synced with your Google Password Manager, creating a private, secure relationship between the account holder and the device used for accessing the PayPal account. Also, it makes it easier to log in, as you don't need to enter your password every time you log back in to PayPal.

Conclusion

Were you able to reset your password? It should be easier to change and reset your password as long as you have access to the email address and can complete the security checks. Also, PayPal recommends you create a passkey. To check whether a passkey feature is available, log back in to PayPal and check if it has the option to generate a passkey. If yes, click Next and follow the instructions to create a passkey for your account. Are you still having issues resetting the password or creating a passkey? Don't hesitate to contact PayPal Customer Support.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for PayPal Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
