Introduction

If you have recently received the dreaded notice of suspension from PayPal, you need to get moving right away to get the problem fixed. After all, whether you use PayPal for business or personal reasons, not being able to send or receive money can be a major problem. Luckily, in most cases, there should be things you can do to get the suspension lifted.

What You'll Need

The most common reasons for a PayPal account suspension are:Suspected bad business practices, such as an excessive number of refunds given, orders undelivered, bad customer reviews, using a personal account for business, selling prohibited items, money laundering, and pyramid schemesOverdraftsSudden increase of payment size or order numbersMultiple failed withdrawals from your bank accountUnverified account informationSuspicious loginsSuspected hacking attemptsSometimes, suspensions are only in place for a limited time instead of being permanent, as a way to prevent fraud or other violations while the company investigates. To get the suspension lifted, all you may need to do is wait a while.

To get the suspension lifted, you may need to prove your identity and/or address. PayPal accepts the following documents to prove identity:PassportDriver's licenseAny other government-issued picture IDand these documents to prove address:Utility or cell phone bills from the previous 12 monthsMotor vehicle registration from the previous 12 monthsBrokerage or 401k statements issued within the previous 12 monthsDeed of home ownershipCurrent home leaseBank statement issued within the previous 12 monthsGovernment-issued ID with your current address on it

Go PayPal's home page.

PayPal's home page

Click the Log In button to sign in to your PayPal account.

Click on the icon with three vertical dots.

It has "More" written underneath it, located on the right side of the page near the top.
A menu will drop down when you click it.

Click on the Resolution Center option.

Look for a message from PayPal about your suspension.

Unless PayPal permanently suspended your account, you will be given steps you need to take to, hopefully, get your account un-suspended.

Follow the instructions you are given.

These instruction might involve providing scans of one or more documents to prove that you are who you say you are, or that you live or do business at the address you provided PayPal. These scans must be clear and completely legible. They cannot be obscured at all, and they must show all four of the document's corners. All the information provided by your documents must match the information you have listed in your PayPal account. You may also be asked to explain certain transactions or customer disputes (if your account is a business account).

Wait for the company complete their investigation.

Check your messages to see if additional information is needed from you, or if the company has made a decision yet.
PayPal will need some time to investigate your case. The time required will depend on the details of your case.

Conclusion

If you have any questions about what you need to do or about the state of the investigation, call a PayPal customer support representative. The call center is open seven days a week from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm PST. The customer support representative is generally not able to remove the suspension from your account, though.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for PayPal Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
