How Do I Make a Custom Microsoft Teams Background?

Upload a Custom Background to Microsoft Teams

  1. Open your Microsoft Teams app or go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software
  2. Select ‘Sign In.'
  3. Log in to your account with your email address and password.
  4. Open a video call.
  5. Within the video call, select the three dots that are the ‘More Actions' button.
  6. Click on ‘Show Background Effects.'
  7. Select ‘Add New.'
  8. Choose the image you'd like to use for your background. The image should already be saved onto your computer.
  9. Select ‘Open.'
  10. Now your image is available for use as a background.
  11. To set the image as your background, go back to the video call and select the ‘More Actions' button again.
  12. Click on ‘Show Background Effects.'
  13. Scroll down until you find your custom background image. Select it.
  14. You can click on ‘Preview' to see how your background will look. If you're unhappy with how it looks, try a different image.
  15. If you're happy with the preview, select ‘Apply' or ‘Apply and Turn On Video' if your webcam is currently off.
