GoFundMe is a great way to contribute to important causes, help individuals, or help start-ups. However, sometimes you make a donation and change your mind. Maybe the donation was too large, or maybe you forgot about upcoming bills that you have. The good news is that GoFundMe allows you to request a refund. Follow the below step-by-step instructions for how to get a refund from GoFundMe.


Get A Refund Through GoFundMe Support

You'll be able to request a refund from GoFundMe's customer support center if you reach out on the same day as you made the donation. If you try to receive a refund after the initial date you donated, GoFundMe cannot guarantee a refund. This is because the funds are made immediately available to the organizer, and may have already been withdrawn from their account.

Contact the GoFundMe Help Desk here. Note that GoFundMe doesn't have a phone number. You will need to provide your account details, the donation amount, and the organizer you donated to.


Get A Refund Through Organizer

If you're trying to get a refund after your initial donation date, and the team at the GoFundMe Help Desk is unable to assist you, you can try reaching out to the organizer. You can explain why you would like a refund. Withdrawals are typically taken out at midnight every night, so try to reach out to them before this if you see the money is still in your account.


  1. Go to www.gofundme.com
  2. Select ‘Sign In' at the top right corner of the screen.
  3. You'll be asked to sign in with your email address and password. Alternatively, you can sign in with your Facebook account.
  4. Visit the GoFundMe account you've donated to and click the envelope icon next to the organizer or team's name to send them a message about your refund.
  5. Explain why you would like a refund.
  6. If you feel that the organizer isn't appropriate in their response to your request, you can reach out to the GoFundMe Help Desk here.


GoFundMe Guarantee for Fraud Protection

If you are requesting a refund for your donation because you feel the money was spent in a way that was misrepresented by the organizer, you may be eligible for a refund through the GoFundMe Guarantee Protection.

  1. Go to https://www.gofundme.com/guarantee-refund-policy
  2. Select ‘Submit Donor Claim' at the bottom of the page.
  3. You will be asked to submit contact details including your name, phone number, email, and the page URL for the GoFundMe campaign.
  4. You'll be asked if you have the organizer already. Select ‘Yes' or ‘No'.
  5. You'll be asked how you know the organizer of the campaign. Select from the drop-down list of options. Depending on your answer, you may see a text box appear asking you to explain your relationship to the organizer. Options will include:
  • They are a family member
  • They are a friend or an acquaintance
  • I don't know the organizer of the campaign
  • You'll be asked why you're requesting a refund. Choose the option that best fits the situation. The options will include:
    • The situation was misrepresented
    • The funds were not used as stated on the campaign
    • The funds were not delivered to the intended recipient
    • I did not authorize this donation
    • I no longer wish to support this campaign
  • You are asked to describe your concerns about how the funds were being used and you can upload pictures or files of any evidence that you have. Files and pictures will greatly help to prove your case and will increase the chances of you getting your refund.
  • Select ‘Send Your Message.'
  • A team member from GoFundMe will review your request and let you know their decision via email.
