Is DISH the Cheapest Internet Service?

DISH has long been a name in satellite television; however, through partnerships with internet service providers, DISH is also able to provide internet services to homes and businesses in areas where DSL, cable or fiber optics are not an option. DISH advertises excellent service at the best prices, but is DISH the cheapest internet service? You can contact customer service here to discuss plans and pricing, or you can read the comparisons below.

How DISH is different

DISH isn't a direct supplier of internet service, rather internet is provided through partnerships with existing internet provider companies (most notably HughesNet and Viasat). This can impact the overall price of your internet service as well as the type of internet service you are getting.

DISH via HughesNet

If you are in one of the 29 states where DISH partners with HughesNet, you can get internet plans starting around $28 a month. These plans offer high-speed, unlimited data up to 940 Mbps; however, you will be required to enter into a two-year contract for the service. Additionally, there may be equipment and installation fees that are often required up front or added to your monthly bill. Equipment fees with DISH average around $10 per month.

DISH via Viasat

DISH via Viasat is available in all fifty states but, there are some drawbacks to this internet service. Plans start at approximately $50 per month. Like the internet provided through HughesNet, Viasat provides DISH customers with unlimited data; however, the speed is greatly reduced. DISH via Viasat has speeds up to 100 Mbps. This plan also requires you enter into a two-year contract. Equipment fees are $10 per month as well.

Compared to Other Internet Providers

When comparing DISH to other internet providers, they are less expensive than Spectrum; however, the requirement to enter into a two-year contract sometimes offsets the savings you get with DISH. DISH is the cheaper option when compared to Xfinity with the DISH top level plan being a better deal than Xfinity's basic plan.

The Bottom Line

DISH is a great option for individuals in more rural areas where cable, DSL and fiber optic internet are not as readily available. DISH offers a number of options that make it competitive and affordable. DISH also has one of the highest customer service ratings of all internet providers. Through partnerships with HughesNet and Viasat (the two leading satellite internet providers), DISH is able to reach more customers and provide affordable internet service.
