I opted for the store experience, and I was then placed on hold for roughly 10 minutes before finally agreeing to have someone call me back when it was my turn to answer. After another 20 minutes, I did receive a call back and was thanked for calling Big Lots and asked how they could assist me.
I said that I was considering making a purchase and wanted to know how returns would work if I wasn't satisfied with the purchase. The representative said that she could help with that, but before she did, she wanted to know my name so she could address me that way. I honestly found that a bit off-putting, but gave it to her anyway.
Once I did, she told me that if I wanted to make a return, I would have 30 days to do so, and I would be able to do so at any Big Lots location I wished. I would need to bring the original receipt and packaging, and the representative confirmed that the time frame was 30 calendar days and not 30 business days.
Based on this, I'd feel comfortable getting assistance from Big Lots, although the wait can be a bit of a pain. The presence of a callback program does help, and it clearly works as intended. I personally didn't enjoy being asked my name just for the purpose of addressing me, but I can see that being a positive for some people.
