I just moved to a new home and need to set up a service with Ameren. I looked at their website, but I didn't want to set up my gas service incorrectly so I figured that the best thing to do would be to call them directly to set up my new service. I wasn't sure how their service would be, because while some situations with gas can be an emergency, a simple setup would not be so I thought I might get stuck waiting.
When I called, a voice said, "Ameren. If you suspect a gas leak or smell gas, say emergency or press pound. Otherwise, to get started, what’s the phone number on your account or say, 'I’m a new customer.'" I said that I was a new customer and then it asked me a follow-up question, "Okay, welcome to Ameren, have you ever been a customer before?"
After I said no, it asked me, "Alright, what can I help you with this morning?" I told it that I needed to set up an account and then it repeated it back to me again. At this point, the process seemed a bit repetitive, but I was able to get through it fast enough that it wasn't a big deal.
It then took me to a hold line and another automated message let me know what zipcodes currently have outages. It asked me to hold and said it would be about a minute, and it was accurate. All and all it wasn't too long, and a customer service representative named Rizzy answered the phone and was very polite. She helped me finish up my setup and I hung up quite satisfied with the service.
