The issue in GetHuman-fetzerc's own words
Several years ago, I needed to file a Schedule K-* form through TurboTax (I believe it was in ****).*Ever since then, I’ve not had or needed this form. In other words, my tax returns since then should have qualified for the Free TurboTax edition, but every year TurboTax says I need the Deluxe addition because I allow TurboTax to automatically bring in my information from previous years, which means it brings up the Schedule K-* that no longer exists. Then it makes me get the Deluxe edition if I want to continue. *Some years I've avoided this by putting in my information manually, but I don’t remember that being an option this year. So I paid $**.** unnecessarily out of my federal return for the Deluxe edition.*I also fell for the $**.** processing charge for paying with my federal return rather than with my credit card. If TurboTax had made this option more clear (it’s very easy to miss), I would have ABSOLUTELY chosen to pay with my card to avoid the $**.** processing fee. *In sum, I unnecessarily paid $**.** for the Deluxe edition for a form I didn’t have and another $**.** for an avoidable, not clearly stated processing fee. I should have only paid $**.** for the state return, but instead I paid $***.**.* I’m fine with the $**.** for the state return, but I shouldn’t have been charged the remaining $**.**. *I’d like to recoup that $**.**.*I truly don’t respect TurboTax’s lack of fee transparency. They may have it in small writing, but it’s clear the aim is to pull in more cash from people who just want to get their filing done quickly—people like me who overlook the fine print. TurboTax may get more money this way, but they won’t retain loyalty.
