TurboTax made two significant errors on Schedule * our Michigan **** return which resulted in the state recently advising us that we owed an additional $*,***. **The RMD from Robert's IRA was incorrectly entered on line ** of Schedule * as a subtraction from gross income even though this line is clearly labeled ONLY for military and railroad retirement benefits.**The Michigan Standard Deduction of $**,*** from retirement income was not claimed on line ** of Schedule * even though we clearly qualify by virtue of our dates of birth. Nothing was claimed.**We have filed an amended MI-****X and Schedules * and W with the state and hope this will resolve the situation. We are waiting for a response since our recalculation resulted in taxes due of less than they claimed.**We admit that we trusted TurboTax to prepare our relatively simple return correctly because you have prepared our federal and state returns every year since **** and we have never had any problem. Consequently we did not carefully check them before filing. Our mistake.**We did want to alert you to what appears to be a problem in your Michigan preparation program. About *-* years ago, Michigan began to tax retirement income differently than most states so that might be a factor. It is likely that other Michigan retirees who use TurboTax may have had the same problem.**If you promptly acknowledge this error and give us assurances that it will be corrected we will continue to use TurboTax in the future.
