find out what to do next ... Hi, this is in regard to the tax **** return filed for ***-**-****. Return for joel menkes, joint with wife Viviana sequeira acevedo, ***-**-****.* *I had an inherited ira that was on a * yr plan. It was supposed to be terminated by **-**-****, having run its term. I had papers submitted to my brokerage office, the broker being the plan administrator to do just that, papers submitted mid-december of ****. I gave it a week, saw the action requested was not taken, and had my ex- contact the office to see what was happening. Was advised i had to contact them myself. I live in costa rica so had to send them a message through my account. Saw nothing come back, contacted them again. Didn't learn until near the end of december they could not follow the instructions as given, i had to sell all stock holdings in the account and then remove the cash from the account before they could close it. I had already removed what cash i had at the time by requesting online a transfer to my regular brokerage account so only had the stocks left in the account.**When i learned i first had to sell all the stock i did so immediately. Problem is it was too late to get the cash due to the * day settlement rule. The cash wasn't available until the first week in january, past the deadline to close the account. The cash was transferred that week and the account was closed.**When i prepared my tax return for **** i treated the transaction as if all proceeds were removed in **** and included them within my return for ****, thereby accounting for the tax liability as if it was a **** liability and not any for ****. I.e., i paid up front in the **** return the tax that would've been due for the **** return. I had wanted to discuss this first with someone from the irs so tried the chat option, but each time i tried it i got cut off while typing out the explanation. I understand the time pressures during the tax season so wasn't surprised or upset. I didn't want to try the phone, been there done that years past and the wait time was more often than not mind-numbing. The cost of calling from costa rica would likely be ridiculous I had wanted to enclose an explanation of what i did with the return but couldn't find an option to do that in my tax program, turbotax.**Why i'm contacting you now is i'm flying into ny next week and will be there for about * *** weeks. I want to visit my local irs office there, the smithtown, ny area, don't know if i need an appointment, and explain what i did and why. Also want them advised that when i prepare my **** return the info won't jibe as i'll be getting a **** for the taxable distribution made in **** but accounted for and paid for with my **** return.**Any suggestions you can make toward what i should do to make sure i can get an appointment with the local irs office for a date before i go back to costa rica? I come in the night of may ** and go back to cr the afternoon of june **. Thanks much, and if you'd rather contact me by email than go through this now, my email is *****@***.com.
You can call me at *** *** **** as i'm now in ny and available until *-*, i go back to costa rica a.m. of june **
Tried chat a couple of times during tax season, got cut off while typing out the problem, so this time typed it out beforehand, copied, and pasted into the reason for contacting box. I'm gonna leave the site in a few moments, hope someone gets to see it and will contact me. thanks**Responded twice to your emails asking me if i need more help to resolve this. Yes, i do, but phone won't do it, i need an email response, if you're gonna give me any at all, before my flight to ny this thursday afternoon. Thanks
