I have used your online service for over * years...and LOVE it. I was concerned that our current withholding rates would cause us to owe a lot of money on our **** taxes. I went online to make an appointment at a local office and was amazed to see one open in ** minutes. I get my documents drive over to find the office locked...open by appointment only...so WHY let me make a last minute appointment?? I decide to call the support number for help. The tax "expert" and I had the most CONVOLUTED conversation. She says I have nothing to worry about because my taxes are going to be lower than last year...AFTER I had explained that my withholding had been changed. MY opening statement was...my withholding has been reduced and I am calling to see if I need to go into an office to meet with an expert to calculate my potential tax liability. She then tells me if I am concerned to just go to my HR department and increase my witholdings back to last year's rate. I ask her it is possible for you to calculate my tax liability for **** and she says "no we cannot we do not know how the laws will change".**I just wanted you to know that I was not looking for an exact set in stone number....that I just wanted some guidance so sleep better at night knowing I was not going to owe $**** come April. I ended up heading home...looking up the IRS website and putting in the numbers as best I could calculate them and got my answer...we will owe $**.**. I am still not ***% comfortable with this and am probably going to contact a local CPA and pay them for an hour of their time so I can have confidence in the answer.**In conclusion I will probably use the online process with you next year...but with no itemized deductions etc I may find another way to file as it looks like the process will be so stream lined. AND I am completely discouraged with the level of knowledge and service offered me over the phone. I was willing to walk in and pay an agent for ** minutes of their time to help me get an answer. Not only did your agent on the phone discourage me from coming in, she has me convinced that the level of knowledge is concerning to me moving forward.
