The new user interface has a nice, clean look, and generally functions intuitively. There are two fairly major instances where functionality is lost, however.**Scrolling in the Guide**The old Guide permitted the user to jump directly to a specific date and time in the future. In the new Guide, you can only move forward (or backward) ** hours at a time,**Why this is bad. Suppose you’re watching a show and you see a promo for a special or the premier of a new show that will occur several days from now. You used to be able to pause what you’re watching, enter the Guide, and jump right to that show so you could activate a record. Now you can’t. Instead, you have to hop there in **-hour jumps, then scroll the time backward or forward to locate it.*****. Other Showings**In the old Guide, when you pressed Other Showings, you got a list of all future airings of that show (including all episodes). Now, you see only future airings of that specific episode.**Why this is bad: Often, for example, when I’m watching an episode of a show, I want to check to make sure I have the next episode set to record so I won’t miss it. There’s now virtually no way to do this. If you think you probably have set it to record, you can access Manage Recordings then choose All Future Recrodings and scroll through the list. If no record is set at the expected date & time, it gets much harder. You can go the Guide and hop ahead a week, ** hours at a time, to look for and record it. If the episode does NOT appear in the expected place, your only solution is to access Search mode, and laboriously type in the show name. The result you get will be just what you used to to get simply by accessing Other Showings in the old system.**Note: I realize that the old system had its own problems. Often, with a non-network show that aired several times a week, every week, the list generated by Other Showings could be quite long and repetitive. There might be a relatively easy fix, however:**You might, for example, offer two navigational choices. Instead of Other Showings, have a Future Showings (for this episode alone) and an All Showings (listing other episodes as well).*Or, you could have Other Showings work just as it does now in the new system, but on the page with the listings of this episode offer an button to access All Showings (of this title).**At any rate, this is a serious loss of functionality for which no reasonable alternative exists in the new system.
GetHuman-dmikedav did not yet indicate what DirecTV should do to make this right.
