Help with my Dell - Tech Support issue

I just got a new Dell XPS **** laptop and a new Dell U****D monitor. I connected them with a DP to HDMI cable. The monitor scanned for a signal then says "No HDMI*MHL cable. *I went to Settings, prompted the laptop to Detect an external monitor, It said it could not detect one.*Please let me know how to connect these two.*Thanks!
