How Do I Deauthorize a Computer in iTunes?
You can authorize up to five computers at a time to play your iTunes purchases. If you want to add a new computer to the list, you will first have to deauthorize one of those already on the list. You can easily do so if you have access to the computer. If you do not have access anymore, you need to deauthorize all of your computers and then reauthorize only the ones you want on the list.
You can play your iTunes Store purchases on computers you have authorized to do so. You can have up to five different computers authorized on iTunes at the same time. So if you have five authorized and you want to add a new one, you will have to deauthorize one of the other ones first. This article will teach you how.
How to See if You Need to Deauthorize a Computer
If you can't remember how many computers you have authorized, you can check the number of authorizations you have given by following these instructions:
- Open iTunes.
- Click on Account.
- Click on My Account.
- Enter your Apple ID.
- Enter your password.
- Look for the Computer Authorizations entry on the Account Information page. It is located under the Apple ID Summary header.
How to Deauthorize a Computer You Have Access To
If you have access to the computer you want to deauthorize, follow these instructions:
- Open the Apple Music app.
- Select Account.
- Select Authorizations.
- Select Deauthorize this Computer.
- Enter your Apple ID.
- Enter your password.
- Click on Deauthorize.
How to Deauthorize a Computer You Don't Have Access To
If you don't have access to the computer you want to deauthorize anymore, you will need to deauthorize all of your computers, and then reauthorize all the ones you want to keep authorized. To do all this, follow these instructions:
- Access another computer.
- Open iTunes.
- Click on Account.
- Click on View My Account.
- Enter your Apple ID.
- Enter your password.
- Locate the Apple ID Summary section, which is located near the top of the Account Information page.
- Click on Deauthorize All.
- Access one of the computers you want to reauthorize.
- Open iTunes.
- Click on Account.
- Click on Authorizations.
- Click on Authorize this Computer.
- Enter your Apple ID.
- Enter your password.
- Click on Authorize.
- Repeat steps 9 through 16 on all the other computers you want to reauthorize.
You can only deauthorize all of your computers once each year. It's a good idea to deauthorize your computers when you get rid of them so this doesn't become an issue.
