Introduction

If you notice a charge on your Wells Fargo account that neither you nor any authorized user of your account made, you should report the charge to the bank. Wells Fargo does not offer any online methods of reporting suspicious or fraudulent activity, preferring that you speak to someone in person about it right away, so you only have a couple of options for making the report.

What You'll Need

Before you report the suspicious activity, you should gather any and all evidence you can find about it, including copies of emails and bank statements. Before taking any steps to report the charge, make sure that it is actually a suspicious charge, and not simply a purchase that you forgot about or a case of accidentally having checked the wrong box and ordered extra features or services you didn't know about. If the transaction you are disputing involves a debit card, the debit card will be locked to prevent any other fraudulent charges from being made. If you request a new card to replace it, you should receive it in 5 to 7 days.Wells Fargo may apply a temporary credit to your account while it is investigating the suspicious charge. If the bank finds against your claim, you will have to pay that temporary credit back.If Wells Fargo finds in your favor, not only will you be reimbursed for the charge, but also for any fees and interest that resulted from it.

Contact the merchant associated with the charge and bring it to their attention.

It is possible that the charge was made in error and that if you inform the merchant about it then they will resolve the matter for you quickly and easily.

Call a Wells Fargo customer service representative and tell them about the suspicious charge.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Wells Fargo Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
