How Do I Delete My WeChat Account?

There are various reasons why people choose to delete their WeChat accounts. Whether you want to delete your account because you need to unplug for awhile, or simply don't use it anymore, it's an easy process. Step 1: Backup Your Chats

Before deleting your WeChat account, make sure that you've saved any important data by backing up your account and informing your friends of your departure from the app. If you want to quickly back up your data, log-in to the WeChat app from your PC or laptop, and select the menu button (the icon is three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner. Select the option Backup and Restore to proceed with the backup.

Step 2: Open the WeChat App

From your phone, open the WeChat app and log in. From the main screen, select the blue person shaped icon to visit the Me section. From this screen, you will see a list with several options.

Step 3: Go To Your Accounts Settings

From the Me screen, select the settings option, which is the third in the list and has a gear icon next to it. From there, select the Account Security option at the top of the list. Once you're at the Account Security screen, select the WeChat Security Center link at the top of the list.

Step 4: Find Account Cancellation in the WeChat Security Center

The WeChat Security Center has several helpful options. In order to delete your WeChat account, you'll need to click the link at the bottom of the list that says Account Cancellation.

Step 5: Confirm That You Want To Delete Wechat

Keep in mind that by deleting your WeChat account, your data will be permanently removed from the system. If you want to backup your chats and sent media, refer to step 1 for steps to backup your WeChat data from your computer. Once you've backed up your data if you've chosen to do so, click the green button at the bottom of the screen that says Agree and confirm cancellation.

Once you've completed these steps, you can log out and delete the app from your device. At this point, the WeChat team will process your request and delete your account within 60 days. Make sure not to log into the app after you've requested deletion, otherwise the request will be reversed and the account will stay open.
