What are the qualifications to serve as a notary public in Utah?

Asked a year ago
To serve as a notary public in Utah, several qualifications must be met. First, an applicant must be at least 18 years old and a legal resident or possess lawful employment within the state. Additionally, the individual must exhibit the ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Prospective notaries are required to complete an educational course approved by the Lieutenant Governor's office and pass an examination. Upon passing, they must submit an application, pay the necessary fees, and obtain a $5,000 surety bond. Applicants must also be of good moral character, with no criminal history or past notarial misconduct. Finally, a completed application, including an oath of office, must be sent to the Lieutenant Governor's office for approval.
