Introduction

E-filing your tax return with TurboTax is a quicker way to check the status of your refund from the IRS. The IRS takes up to 48 hours to accept your tax return. If you snail-mailed it, you'll have to wait up to three weeks to check the refund status. Use TurboTax instead for a faster service.

When the status is pending, it means it's yet to be accepted. When it's been accepted, it means your tax return has passed initial inspection and may likely be approved. If you want to know your TurboTax refund status, please use the steps below.

Log In to Your TurboTax Account

You can check the status of your tax refund by logging in to your TurboTax account. If it's been accepted, you'll have to wait up to three weeks for your refund. Paper checks can take six to eight weeks. If the status says Rejected, you may need a minor correction. Just follow the instructions from the IRS and re-submit your tax return.

How Do I Check My Turbotax Refund Status? (Step 1)

Go to the IRS' Where's My Refund Page

Go to Irs.gov/refunds to check the status of your refund. You'll need to provide your individual taxpayer ID number, filing status and exact refund amount to check your refund. This tool will tell you if the refund is approved or if it's in sent status.

Click on the Check Your Refund Button

Fill Out the Form

Make sure you provide the IRS with the correct information.

Click Submit

You may need to call the IRS if the Where's My Refund page recommends that you call them.

Open the App

You can also use the app to check your tax refund status with the IRS. If you don't have it installed, the app is available on Google Play, App Store and Amazon. Besides checking the status, the app lets you pay taxes and get free tax help.

IRS will send a confirmation email once they receive your tax return. You can check for the status within 24 hours after getting the confirmation.

Call the IRS

Your last resort for checking the status of your tax refund is to call the IRS. You need to contact the IRS if Where's My Refund directs you to call them, if it's been three or more since you e-filed it or if it's been over six weeks since you mailed your tax return.

Conclusion

Most refunds are issued within 21 days, but it may also take longer in some cases. If the status says rejected, the tax return could contain an error or need further review. The IRS may also contact you if they need more information regarding your tax return. If you have further questions about filing your tax return via TurboTax or checking the status of your tax return, please don't hesitate to contact Customer Support.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for TurboTax Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
